Downturn Helps Astros "Rebuild"
Drayton McLane would rather taking a flying leap off Williams Tower than use the word "rebuild" when describing his baseball team. In these trying economic times Drayton has said he can't afford to pay players like Randy Wolf and Ty Wigginton. So here's my theory. Instead of using "that word"....(rebuild) Drayton is wisely using the downturn, not spending on free agents, and letting his farm system be replenished. The economic dilemna is his way of rebuilding and not calling it rebuilding. Not spending a ton of money this year, with a reasonably good excuse. They signed most of their draft choices from last year and should be able to do the same this year. Hopeful estimates are that things will start to turn around toward the end of the year, giving the Astros a year to "build", not spend more money, and be more competitive in 2010. To Drayton "rebuild" is the same as saying @#*&%%*$...and Drayton just does'nt talk like that.
